Mohamed Salah might just be the best player in world football on current form, insists former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders. The Reds star continued his fast start to the 2021/22 campaign with two more goals in the 5-1 thrashing of Porto on Tuesday night.

It means Salah now has eight goals in as many games this season, as the Egyptian gets more prolific with each passing year.

The 29-year-old already has a century of Premier League goals, doing so faster than any player in Liverpool history, and Saunders believes it’s about time we ask: who is better?

Lionel Messi answered that quite emphatically on Tuesday night, reminding everyone of his enduring class with a beautiful goal in PSG’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo has four goals in as many games since returning to Manchester United.

While Saunders puts the two modern greats in their own bracket, the Welshman insists neither of them are better than Salah on current form.

“Right now, as we speak, who’s better than him?” Saunders told talkSPORT. “Eight goals in eight games from right-wing, he’s not playing down the middle. “He just looks unstoppable.”

Saunders added: “There’s Messi and Ronaldo, who are on their own, but right now they’re not as good as Salah.”

When asked `whether he would take Salah or Ronaldo, Saunders answered: “Right now, Salah. It’s easy to say Ronaldo, but right now Salah looks like he’s going to score every week.”
