A 27-year-old man was killed and another seriously injured following a violent altercation between two groups of youths at a local bar in Kanyaluo village, Rachuonyo North Sub-County.
The deceased, identified as Clinton Otieno, was fatally stabbed on Wednesday night. The incident is linked to political differences between rival groups supporting different aspirants.
According to Rachuonyo North Sub-County Police Commander Peter Walah who confirmed the incident, the confrontation began as a heated argument inside the bar before escalating into violence outside the premises.
Amid the chaos, Otieno was stabbed, leading to his death, while his brother, Erick Otieno, sustained serious abdominal injuries as he attempted to intervene.
“The conflict arose from political disagreements between two groups. The situation escalated leading to the fatal stabbing of one individual and serious injury to another who was rushed to the hospital for medical attention,” Walah said.
The police commander says that no arrests have been made but investigations are ongoing.
“Investigations are progressing well and we are determined to establish the motive and bring those responsible to justice,” Walah said.
He appealed to members of the public to provide any information that may assist in identifying the suspect, who remains at large. He also reiterated the importance of tolerance, urging residents to coexist peacefully and avoid turning political differences into violence.
“Politics should not be a cause of death. Young people must exercise maturity and restraint,” Walah advised.
The family members of the deceased have expressed deep sorrow and called for justice. Clinton’s cousin, Tobias Anyona, described the loss as devastating and appealed for financial support to help the family cope with burial and medical expenses.
“We are in pain and facing a serious financial burden. We are asking for any assistance during this difficult time,” he said.
The family also urged law enforcement authorities to ensure the perpetrator is apprehended and faces the full force of the law.
The victims’ mother, Rose Atieno who is in deep anguish, appealed to the relevant authorities to ensure justice is served.
