China’s shipbuilding industry maintained the world’s largest market share in terms of three major indicators for the 16th consecutive year in 2025, according to data released by the ministry of industry and information technology on Sunday.

The country’s shipbuilding output reached 53.69 million deadweight tonnes (DWT) in 2025, up 11.4 per cent year-on-year and accounting for 56.1 per cent of the global total. New orders reached 107.82 million DWT last year, representing a 69 per cent share of the global market.

As of the end of December 2025, the sector’s holding orders stood at 274.42 million DWT, up 31.5 per cent from the previous year. This volume accounted for 66.8 per cent of the global market share.

Industry report show that the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), established in July 1999, is a major state-owned enterprise and one of China’s largest shipbuilding and ship repairing groups.

It is responsible for the design, manufacture and sales of both military and civil ships, as well as offshore projects and maritime equipment.

CSIC operates 46 industrial subsidiaries and 28 research and development institutes, playing a significant role in the global shipbuilding industry. In 2019, CSIC merged with CSSC, creating the largest shipbuilder in the world, known as the China Shipbuilding Group.
