Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has reportedly turned his attention to another Eredivisie attacker with a deal to sign Ajax’s Antony increasingly looking unlikely.

Ajax issued a hands-off warning by slapping an £80 million price tag on the Brazilian winger. The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford since Ten Hag’s arrival at the end of last season.

Antony has scored an impressive 17 goals and provided 12 assists over the last two seasons in the Dutch top flight. Tyrell Malacia (Feyenoord) and Lisandro Martinez (Ajax) have both left the Eredivisie to join the Red Devils this summer, while former Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen has also joined the club.

Ajax are not in a rush to offload any more players before the transfer window closes having already sold Martinez, Ryan Gravenberch, Sebastien Haller, Nicolas Tagliafico and Dominik Kotarski.

While another former Ajax player, Frenkie de Jong, is a top target for United this summer, Ten Hag is still in the market for another attacking player.

A new winger and striker could join the club amidst Cristiano Ronaldo’s uncertain future at Old Trafford. And United have been linked with a player who can operate in both positions. According to the Mirror, PSV forward Cody Gakpo has been added to Ten Hag’s ‘wanted list’.

Ajax’s valuation of Antony has ‘prompted’ the Dutch manager to turn his attention to Gakpo – who has been linked with Leeds United and Arsenal in the past. It is believed the 23-year-old would cost around £40 million.

The report adds that PSV will only listen to offers after the conclusion of their Champions League qualifying campaign. They drew the first leg of their third-round play-off against Monaco and if they progress will face Rangers or Union Saint-Gilloise in the final round before the group stage.

PSV boss Ruud van Nistelrooy would be “devastated” to see Gakpo go amid interest from United. Speaking in April, Gakpo admitted that he “likes Arsenal a lot”.

“The Premier League is a big league. Virgil van Dijk plays there with Liverpool so I like to watch them,” Gakpo told The Sun.

“We are not the same kind of league but I think we try to look at the Premier League and learn about it. Everybody wants to play one time in the Premier League. I don’t favour one team but I like Arsenal a lot. I looked up to Henry when I was younger because he was a tall guy who played on the wing.”
