Chris Wheatley has revealed that quite a few Arsenal players have been ever so impressed by Charlie Patino in training, adding that Alexandre Lacazette has taken him aside for advice.

Patino is one of the most exciting teenagers coming through Arsenal’s academy right now. At 17, he lit up an Under-23 win over Manchester United last week, leaving senior defender Phil Jones for dead before dinking Dean Henderson between the sticks.

It was an example of the sort of composure that the young lad has and Wheatley, who exclusively covers Arsenal for Football London, has revealed that the senior players at London Colney are taken with him.

He told Latte Firm on YouTube: “I know a lot of the players in the first-team are really impressed with him. I think Ben White has given him advice, Alexandre Lacazette has taken him aside and they’re really impressed with what they’re seeing, and so is Mikel Arteta.”

Patino, who has Spanish roots, is attracting quite a bit of interest from Barcelona. But The Mirror reported this week that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta would promote him to senior football soon.

This is potentially dangerous, however, because scoring against Manchester United’s Under-23 side doesn’t qualify you to start playing in the Premier League every single week.

He’s a rip-roaring talent, but Arsenal, who beat Burnley 1-0 on Saturday, have had dozens of them down the years and only a select few ever establish themselves as big players in the senior setup.

And Arteta needs to be mindful of the fact that Patino, for all the hype, is still only 17 years old.
