Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has appealed voters in Ol Kalou to embrace reconciliation, unity and peaceful coexistence following the conclusion of Thursday’s parliamentary by-election.

The cabinet secretary told the residents to put political differences aside and focus on constituency’s development.

In a statement Miano thanked residents for conducting a peaceful election, saying the calm atmosphere witnessed throughout on polling day reflected the community’s commitment to democracy and stability.

The minister urged both supporters of the winning candidate and those whose preferred candidates were unsuccessful to move beyond the political contest and work together for the common good of Ol Kalou.

“The election is now behind us. It is time for healing, reconciliation and building a united community where every resident feels respected and valued regardless of how they voted,” she said.

Miano stressed that political competition should never divide families, neighbours or communities, noting that lasting development can only be achieved where there is peace and mutual respect.

She appealed to residents celebrating victory to do so with humility and dignity, while encouraging those disappointed by the outcome to remain hopeful and continue participating in the constituency’s development.

“It is important to protect peace in every word and every action. Let there be no insults, blame or unnecessary divisions. Let us instead be guided by respect, understanding and our shared desire to build a better Ol Kalou,” she said.

The cabinet secretary reaffirmed that the national government’s commitment to the people of Ol Kalou remains firm and that development programmes would continue regardless of the political outcome. She said the government would continue engaging residents to identify and implement projects that respond to their most pressing needs.

Among the priorities she highlighted are creating employment opportunities for young people, strengthening support for farmers and small businesses, improving roads and market infrastructure, expanding access to reliable clean water and enhancing security.

According to Miano, these interventions will improve livelihoods and ensuring that every family benefits from inclusive development. She further urged residents to shift their attention from campaign politics to practical solutions capable of transforming the constituency.

“Let us now focus on ideas and programmes that will deliver real and visible progress for the people of Ol Kalou. Development should unite us because it benefits everyone,” she said.

She said the future of Ol Kalou depends on collective effort, mutual respect and a shared commitment to peace, development and prosperity for all residents.
