Cash-starved Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has confirmed that world football governing body FIFA has officially lifted the financial sanction that had resulted in the suspension of development funding under the FIFA Forward Programme.

In a letter dated December 15, 2025, FIFA informed FKF that the FIFA Governance, Audit and Compliance Committee (GACC) at its meeting held on December 8, 2025, positively reviewed the federation’s progress following the central audit review.

As a result, the committee resolved that the standard release of FIFA Forward Development Funds, be resumed with immediate effect.

FIFA noted the positive steps taken by FKF in implementing the agreed action plan and the improved results recorded during the audit process.

While development funding has now been reinstated, FKF will continue to operate under a monthly reporting mechanism on the use of FIFA Forward funds until at least the next GACC meeting scheduled for March 2026.

FKF President Hussein Mohammed welcomed the decision, describing it as a significant milestone in the federation’s ongoing reform journey. Mr Mohammed said the outcome has been achieved through hard work, discipline and collective responsibility by the FKF leadership and secretariat.

“This decision by FIFA is a strong vote of confidence in the direction we are taking as a federation. Step-by-step, we are fixing Kenyan football by strengthening governance, improving financial management and restoring credibility at all levels,” Mohammed said.

The FKF supremo said the federation remains fully committed to meeting all FIFA requirements and ensuring that these resources are used transparently and solely for the development of football in Kenya.

The resumption of FIFA Forward funding will support FKF’s ongoing programmes for grassroots development, infrastructure, capacity building and the overall growth of football in the country.

Football Kenya Federation boss reiterated the federation’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of governance, accountability and financial integrity as it continues to work closely with FIFA to strengthen the game in Kenya.
