Prince Harry is writing a book about his life in the Royal Family to be published in late 2022. The Duke of Sussex, aged 36, is said to have been secretly working on the book for almost a year.

A statement from publisher Random House said: “In an intimate and heartfelt memoir from one of the most fascinating and influential global figures of our time, Prince Harry will share, for the very first time, the definitive account of the experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons that have helped shape him.

“Covering his lifetime in the public eye from childhood to the present day, including his dedication to service, the military duty that twice took him to the frontlines of Afghanistan and the joy he has found in being a husband and father, Prince Harry will offer an honest and captivating personal portrait, one that shows readers that behind everything they think they know lies an inspiring, courageous, and uplifting human story.”

They added the 2022 release date is “tentative”. The book does not yet have a name and it is thought the first draft is due this October.

Prince Harry said of the memoir, “I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become. I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story – the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned – I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think.

“I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a first-hand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful.”

Terms for the agreement have not yet been disclosed but he will be donating the proceeds to charity.

He has been working with Pulitzer-winning ghostwriter J. R. Moehringer on the book. The news comes a month after his wife Meghan Markle released a children’s book inspired by the relationship between Prince Harry and their son.

The Duchess of Sussex’s debut publication, called The Bench, also features a number of drawings which appear to depict the couple’s life in the US. It was published through Random House Books for Young Readers.

She dedicated the work to “the man and the boy who make my heart go pump-pump” – in reference to the Duke of Sussex and their child Archie, two.

An updated version of the couple’s biography Finding Freedom, written by authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, is also set to be released this summer.

It is not yet known whether either book will contain details about the Megxit controversy and the Sussexes’ bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this year.
