A politician who was on the run after reportedly defiling a 14-year-old girl in Ijara Sub-County two years ago has finally been arrested.

The accused Siyad Barre Ahmed had reportedly fled to Uganda on learning that police were pursuing him.

Ijara County Police Commander Nicodemus Kotut said police, acting on a tipoff, seized the suspect on learning that he was back in the country.

Kotut said the suspect was cornered at Kanyoyo trading centre in Mwingi by a multi-agency security team.

Ahmed who unsuccessfully vied for the Masalani Ward seat in 2022 allegedly defiled and impregnated the minor two years ago. The victim later gave birth to a baby boy via caesarean section.

Masalani OCS Martin Mulunda also confirmed the arrest saying the suspect will be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
