For some years now, Kenyan music scene has looked to be in the doldrums. An irritating monotony of remixes on radio, television or public service vehicles.
At times, it feels like time stopped in Kenya’s entertainment industry as creativity seems to have been surrendered to the past. Artists have largely preferred remixes of composition of yesteryears to the chagrin of music fans.
The most affected genre is the Rumba genre that is presently experiencing a monotony – be it on radio, television, clubhouse music or live band shows. The menu is too familiar and no longer appeals to fans.
That is why the release by Kenya-based Congolese musician Zeget Dalonguer aka Master Voice of his first album in Nairobi, next month, is a breath of fresh air in a starving entertainment especially music – industry.
The launch of the album Master is scheduled for June 27 evening at Emara Ole Serani Hotel on Mombasa Road. Thousands of fans are expected to grace the launch that will also be supported by Kenyan musicians.
Speaking to Tell Media on Friday, Dalonguer, whose hit song Shika Simu is currently doing well in the market, said tickets will retail at Ksh2,000 and are available online at tikohub.com.
The album with the title Master features seven Swahili and Lingala tracks, with additional contributions by Kenyan top musicians led by Prince Indah who sang Mashabiki, Nyar Joluo, Mama Watoto and Kwach Ogolo Koke. The other musicians featured areNick Odhiambo – popularly known as Gradine Toto – and Iddi Achieng, who is known for the hit Otis Janam.
Dalonguer who has in the past composed songs that were well received by his fans, said the album is already out and features tracks Akinyi and My X that are among songs that are dominating the local music charts and airplay.
He said his band is currently shooting videos of the album.
The former Bilenge Musica International vocalist has been living in Kenya for the past 16 years. He says his 14-member group, Royaumz Band, will perform live at Emara Ole Serani Hotel during the launch.
Dee Presenter 001 DJ Namuz will also be live on stage.
“I sing about issues and most of my songs are backed with strong messages. I don’t compose music for the sake of it. I use music as a vehicle through which I communicate important information to the audience,” he said.
Royaumz Band is a resident band at 1824 in Madaraka Shopping Centre. It performs there every Tuesday. It also performs at Pyasa Lounge Donholm on Thursdays and Sundays and Club Kuche at Nyayo Stadium every Saturday.
