Roberto De Zerbi’s side beat Manchester United earlier this month but followed that win up with a shock 5-1 loss to relegation-threatened Everton. However, they recovered on Sunday to win 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium to significantly dent Arsenal’s title hopes in the process.

Now striker Deniz Undav, who scored his side’s second goal, has explained how head coach De Zerbi motivated his players. He told Sky Sport:

“We showed a good reaction after defeat by Everton. It was a big three points and we’re happy we got the win. The manager showed us a Michael Jordan video, to show us how he motivated himself for each game. He showed us after the defeat by Everton and I think it was the right choice to show us the video and we showed today how mentally strong we are.”

De Zerbi added, “We want to become a bigger team and the most important part to improve is mentality. The defeat against Everton started when we won against Man United. We didn’t forget the victory.”

Former Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck, who came on as a substitute for Brighton, told the BBC: “It was very important we responded after the last game. We stuck to our morals, played our football and got a great victory at the end of the day.

“It’s not something that happens by luck. We work hard during the week and today it’s paid off. We got the goals on top of the performance and it’s a great day for the club. It puts us in a great position and we want to push on.”

Brighton are sixth in the Premier League. They are four points behind Liverpool in fifth and eight behind Manchester United in fourth, although they do have a game in-hand on both sides.
