Financial prudence enables Laikipia County in central Kenya to surpass own source revenue targets after banking $10.5 million
When he announced the feat, Governor Joshua Irungu said, is the remarkable achievement and a pointer to the county’s own source revenue potential that has been on an upward trajectory since the 2022-23 financial year, when collection was Ksh900 million ($6.96 million).

Among the new revenue sources are charges on electric vehicle charging points, with rural areas paying Ksh4,000 ($32), urban centres Ksh6,000 ($46.37) and the municipality Ksh8,000 ($61.83) per charging point. The county has also introduced new charges for underground fuel storage tanks with a capacity between 10,000 and 20,000 litres.
