Kenya’s livestock and meat industry targets $7.8 billion earnings from exports to Middle East and Asia
Among the key resolutions include fast-tracking the roll-out of the Animal Identification and Traceability System (ANITRAC) in all the 47 counties. The principal secretary said that adopting the new system will not only open up Kenya’s livestock products to the international export markets but will also ensure that the sector complies with international sanitary and phyto-sanitary standards currently demanded by the premium meat market.

Maria Mbeneka, CEO of Ranch Expert, called for support to local livestock producers to improve feed quality and disease control if Kenya is to access the highly regulated international markets. She noted that Kenya has yet to enter the lucrative European Union market as the country has not been declared free of transboundary animal diseases.
