Minorities Rights Day: ‘Constitution expressly protects minority rights despite their numbers’
President Ruto said the Constitution obliges the state to go beyond recognition and take deliberate action to protect and empower minority and marginalised communities.

Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage Hannah Cheptumo said that the policy is a milestone in the fulfilment of rights enshrined in the Constitution. She further noted that recognition and protection of ethnic minorities and marginalised communities are at the heart of cultural justice and national cohesion.

The meeting brought together representatives of the Tallai, Ogiek, Nubian and Nyarwanda communities, alongside government officials and civil society actors to deliberate on the proposed policy, which promotes unity through inclusion, equitable resource allocation and recognition of cultural diversity.

The purpose of the meeting with the PS BT, is to explore strategic partnership between Minorities and Marginalised Affairs Unit (MMAU) and the Department of Broadcasting and Telecommunications under the Ministry of ICT and Broadcasting with a focus on expanding broadcasting and digital development initiatives to underserved communities, and ensuring equitable visibility, access and participation of minority and Marginalized population in national media and innovation programmes.
