Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi at a Kisumu mall, detectives have said.

Meanwhile, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has been implicated in criminal activities in Kisumu County for political reasons. Members of Parliament from the Lake Victoria Basin accused Dr Omollo of underwriting criminal activities in the region in what is billed a supremacy push for clout ahead of the 2027 elections.

MP Rosa Buyu was categorical that Omollo retains the gangs that assaulted Senator Osotsi.

In a statement to the media, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the trio was apprehended following investigations into the incident at Java House West End Mall.

The suspects were identified as Carlos Owiti alias Kalonje, 24, from Nyalenda; Eric Otieno alias Dude, 39, from Manyatta and Vincent Odhiambo alias Tinga, 27, also from Nyalenda.

Police said the three are in custody and are being processed for arraignment in court. The DCI added that investigations have been intensified, with detectives pursuing additional suspects believed to have been involved in the attack.

The agency thanked members of the public for volunteering information to aid the probe and urged continued cooperation as efforts to bring all those responsible to justice gather pace.

Meanwhile the Kisumu County Security team has intensified a crackdown on goons that have been terrorizing area residents lately. Kisumu County Commissioner Benson Leparmorijo said so far seven people have been killed in Nyando sub-county following clashes between two rival groups.

Leparmorijo said the county and sub-county security teams were working round the clock to ensure that all suspects are arrested and charged.

“We have launched investigations to establish the financiers of these organised groups. I want to assure the public that all those involved will have their day in court,” he said.

The administrator assured businessmen in Ahero, which has been worst hit by the new wave of insecurity that security has been beefed up and their property will be protected.
