Kylian Mbappe’s PSG mega-contract will see the forward earn over £547 million ($620 million) in three years, according to reports.

The 23-year-old signed a new deal with the French champions in the summer when he seemed destined to leave for Real Madrid in a shock U-turn that preceded legal battles and much controversy.

According to Le Parisien via Get French Football News, Mbappe will earn the money in gross salary, which will make him the highest-paid sportsperson ever. The contract reportedly included several clauses, but no performance bonuses such as for Champions League or Ballon d’Or wins.

It is however said to include a £156 million ($177 million) signing bonus, payable over three years that will be paid in full even if the player leaves, a £61 million ($69 million) loyalty bonus to be received at the end of the season that will increase every year, and an option of an extra two years that can be triggered only by the player himself.

The deal was only signed when French president Emmanuel Macron stepped in, but it is record breaking and this could be just the start. Mbappe however has reportedly asked to leave the club already, eyeing a January move after he was seemingly left feeling let down by the club’s owners.

It has been previously reported that the final year of the £650,000 ($731,000)-per-week three-year deal is an option for Mbappe himself.

This means that at the end of this season, the forward will enter the final 12 months of his deal, and PSG will again be in the position of deciding whether to try to extend his contract or sell him to avoid losing him for free at the end of his contract.

This was the case in the summer of 2021 when Real Madrid had made their interest in Mbappe clear when they submitted a final bid of £154 million ($177 million) for the Ligue 1 star in an attempt to pry him away from Paris. Mbappe has generally remained coy on the finer details of his contract – with it even suggested that he has ‘full control’ of PSG’s sporting project – but manager Christophe Galtier recently rubbished reported that the forward is unhappy at the club.

Mbappe has scored 164 goals in 177 games for PSG since joining for £130.5 million from Monaco in 2018, and netted 21 times in 39 appearances on loan in Paris the year before the deal was made permanent.
