Gabriel Martinelli described Arsenal team-mate Gabriel Jesus as a “beast” after the Gunners extended their perfect start to the season with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa.

Jesus, who joined Arsenal from Manchester City earlier in the summer, has made a superb start to his career at the Emirates and put the Gunners ahead against Villa with his third goal of the season.

Villa, struggling under Premier League legend Steven Gerrard, improved after half-time and found an equaliser directly from Douglas Luiz’s corner. But Arsenal quickly restored their lead, with Martinelli finding space at the back post and turning home Bukayo Saka’s pinpoint cross.

Martinelli was “delighted” to see Arsenal secure their fifth successive victory and singled out former Man City striker Jesus for praise.

“We are delighted with the performance and the result as well,” Martinelli told BT Sport. “That is the spirit we need to keep for the whole season. We need to keep patient and we deserved the win and got the three points. We always try to score and we conceded from a set-piece. We were a bit upset but we scored again and that it the mentality we need to have.”

On Jesus” impact at Arsenal, Martinelli added, “He makes our job so much easier. On He is a beast. He is everywhere on the pitch; we are so happy with him and we are lucky to have him here.”

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, meanwhile, admitted he was “really happy” with his side’s start to the season, although insisted he is refusing to get carried away by Arsenal’s 100 per cent record.

“I’m really happy with the result,” he said. “It’s so tough to win in this league.

“The first half was probably one of the best we have played. We could have scored three, four, five. We didn’t kill the game and then in this league, the game is alive.
