Swarm of bees invade burial in Makueni County in bizarre incident locals link to witchcraft

A burial ceremony in Makindu Sub County was thrown into disarray after a swarm of bees mysteriously invaded the occasion and attacked mourners.

The ceremony was disrupted for at least three hours after mourners fled the scene for their own safety, leaving behind the casket when the stinging insects showed up from nowhere.

At least 10 mourners sought treatment at various health facilities in Makindu town in Kibwezi West Sub-County after they were stung by the bees. There were fears and speculation that the incident was associated with acts of witchcraft as there were no beehive within the vicinity of the homestead.

The bizarre Tuesday incident that occurred at Kasemeini village, where relatives and friends had gathered to give their departed kin a solemn send off before the bees caused mayhem, halting ceremony for over three hours before it would proceed. The burial was for a boda rider namely Kyalo Kasyoki.

“The funeral was suspended for several hours before proceeding later into the evening with only a few mourners in attendance since many of them had left the venue altogether after the incident,” said Reverend Dominic Mutuku from the Redeemed Gospel Church (RGC) at Kwa Kyai Market.
