A middle-aged man has been sentenced to two years in prison by the Kenol Law Courts after he was found guilty of threatening to kill.
Lawrence Ndung’u Wambui appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Sheila Nyaga on Wednesday September 17 where he faced charges of threatening to kill.
The court heard that on August 30, 2025, at around 2.30 am, the complainant, Monica Wanjiru Kariuki, was attacked by the accused as she was returning home from work at Diamond Bar and Restaurant in Saba town. Further, the complainant had received threats to her life by the accused.
The accused, who was known to the victim, allegedly beat her and then pointed a knife at her, threatening to take her life.
Monica managed to escape from her attacker’s hands and in fear, ran and sought refuge in a nearby plot where she hid in a toilet for approximately 20 minutes before knocking on the door of one of the tenants, who was also her friend, Dennis.
Dennis reportedly saw the accused outside the gate before locking and securing the complainant, Monica in his residence for the night. The following morning, the complainant reported the incident at Saba Police Station.
Later that day, at around 1pm, the accused allegedly went to her place of work, as a patron.
Monica alerted her boss of the accused person’s presence in the bar and he was immediately apprehended and taken to Saba police station.
During the proceedings, the prosecution requested a strict custodial sentence, as the accused was a repeat offender with previous convictions for stealing and house breaking at Kenol Law Courts.
The accused pleaded guilty to the offence and was convicted on his own plea of guilt. In mitigation, the accused asked for forgiveness from the court. However, Magistrate Nyaga ruled that he needed to learn a lesson and sentenced him to two years in prison.
The court further granted him the right to appeal the ruling within 14 days.
