A seven-year-old boy is nursing burns on his hands after his parents scolded him with molten plastics in Homa Bay County.
The incident, which took place in Ramoya village, Ndhiwa Sub-County, led to the prompt arrest of two brutal parents.
The Sub-County Police Commander John Losia said the minor was allegedly being punished for stealing fish.
“We arrested the couple after we received information that they burnt their child for allegedly sneaking into the kitchen to have a bite of fish,” Losia said.
He said the man and his wife will be charged jointly in the case.
“Both of them have been arrested and will be arraigned in court once investigations were complete,” he said.
Area Assistant Chief Enos Nyawade who arrested the couple said the incident was brought to his attention by concerned neighbours.
“I was informed about the incident and immediately embarked on investigations. Upon establishing that the child was hurt, I took the couple into custody,” Nyawade said.
He said preliminary investigations indicate that the woman burnt plastics and dripped the molten matter on the minor. The couple was arrested and detained at Kobodo Police Post before being moved to Ndhiwa Police station.
Losia said the minor was taken to hospital where his wounds were dressed.
The minor was then handed over to the Children’s Department in Ndhiwa before being taken to a safe house.
“He was in a stable condition when he was handed over to the Children’s Department.” the police boss said.
He warned parents, guardians and any persons who are entrusted with children against child abuse.
“Anyone violating the rights of children will be prosecuted promptly,” he said.
