Kenya creates National Marine Spatial Plan to diffuse conflicts arising from competing interests in use of ocean resources
To address these challenges, the government through the Kenya Marine Fisheries and Socio-Economic Development (KEMFSED) project under the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, has embarked on a participatory process to develop the spatial plan.

At the same time, KEMFRI Chief Executive Officer Paul Orina urged Western Indian Ocean countries to strengthen joint efforts in protecting marine ecosystems from pollution, overfishing, and habitat destruction.
