Inquest into Hillside Endarasha Academy fire delayed by state unpreparedness
Last month, the parents of the deceased boys, together with the Kenya Human Rights Commission and the Elimu Bora Working Group, filed a constitutional petition. The petition seeks to hold the school proprietors, the National Education Board, the Nyeri County Director of Education, the Nyeri County Education Board and the Education Cabinet Secretary accountable for failing to protect and secure the learners’ lives, resulting in the tragic deaths.
New inquest: South Africa revisits 1977 death in custody of anti-apartheid leader Steve Biko
It’s not clear if any of the police officers implicated in Biko’s death are still alive. South Africa’s National Prosecuting Authority said the new inquest into Biko’s death 48 years later was an effort “to address the atrocities of the past and assist in providing closure to the Biko family and society at large.”
