Kenya Kwanza government will not impose anyone on the people of Malava Constituency during the forthcoming Member of Parliament by-election.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and CS for Diaspora and Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has instead asked the residents to nominate a leader of their choice and who will carry on and complete projects initiated by former MP, the late Malulu Injendi.

Speaking during a consultative meeting with teachers at Tande Secondary School in Malava constituency, Kakamega County, on Tuesday Mudavadi urged the residents not to allow divisive clan rivalry to derail their unity, recalling his long standing friendship with the late Injendi.

The late Injendi vied and won on Amani National Coalition (ANC), which has however merged with UDA party of President William Ruto.

Mudavadi asked teachers, as opinion shapers, to be on the forefront in key societal issues, saying their voice must be heard. He said the Ruto led-government has invested heavily in education, noting that the sector, in this financial year received Ksh702 billion, which is about 25 per cent of total national budget.

The prime cabinet secretary said the government was undertaking a number of flagship projects in Kakamega County and dismissed claims that this was tied to the forthcoming by-election.

“Just like other parts, the government of President William Ruto is undertaking several projects across the country, including Kakamega,” he said.

Among projects underway include a Ksh2.2 billion water project at Namagara that is set to provide reliable and safe water supply to Malava Town and surrounding areas as well as the completion of the level six Kakamega County Referral Hospital that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is set to complete.

The Ksh6 billion health facility has stalled for the last three years and the county government sought assistance from the National government towards its completion.
