The shortlists for the 2025 Ballon d’Or have been announced, with Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Ousmane Dembele among the nominees for the men’s award.

England internationals Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice and Harry Kane are also on the 30-player shortlist, while Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay has been nominated for the first time after winning the Serie A title with Napoli.

Barcelona’s Yamal, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Pedri are all nominated as well after their side won the La Liga title, Copa Del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup last campaign, while also making it to the semi-finals of the Champions League. Yamal is also nominated for the Kopa Trophy (best Under-21 player).

There is a heavy Paris Saint-Germain contingent in the awards after the 2024-25 campaign, which was the best in the club’s history. The French side won the league title, the Coupe de France, Trophee des Champions and the Champions League which led to Dembele,  Gianluigi Donnarumma, Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Achraf Hakimi, Fabian Ruiz, Nuno Mendes, Vitinha and Joao Neves all making the final 30-man shortlist.

Mendes, Vitinha, and Neves were also part of the Portugal side that beat Spain in the Nations League final in June.

New Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres is also in the shortlist after scoring 52 goals in 54 games for former club Sporting CP last campaign, and leading the Portuguese side to the league and cup double. Fellow Premier League forward Erling Haaland of Manchester City is also named on the shortlist.

Premier League champions Liverpool boast several names on the men’s shortlist. Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister, and Mohammed Salah are all in contention for the award, alongside new Liverpool signing Florian Wirtz (formerly Bayer Leverkusen).

For the second consecutive year, neither Lionel Messi (Inter Miami) nor Cristiano Ronaldo (Al Nassr) made the final shortlist for the award.

The winners will be announced in Paris on September 22.
