A parliamentary panel urged the government on Tuesday to scrap some new taxes proposed in its finance bill, including new ones on car ownership, bread, cooking oil and financial transactions. The panel also recommended that a fuel tax towards road maintenance be increased.

Later will be too late. Anything else may relapse into pettifoggery in the courtrooms, with most educated looters and educated thieves cleared of any wrong doing even if there is overwhelming evidence that what they have is not commensurate with their legitimate income, and must have been accumulated only by taking what is not theirs by virtue of their offices.
Conflict-related sexual violence is the only crime for which society is more apt to blame victims than perpetrators
It’s very hard to talk about the actual prevalence of conflict-related sexual violence. Just to give you one example, last year in my report to the Secretary-General, I highlighted less than 1,000 cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) for 2022. When I saw the data from UNICEF talking about 32,000 cases and the UN sexual and reproductive health agency, UNFPA, with 38,000 cases for the same year, I really panicked. So, I had to go to the DRC to update my data and to explain the context, the security and access challenges faced in documenting these cases.
Palestinian medics report Israeli tanks pushing deeper into Rafah, where they killed eight people

Medics and Hamas media said eight Palestinians were killed in Al-Mawasi and many families fled north in panic. They did not identify the fatalities, and the Israeli military said it was looking into the report.
